Inspiration Terror in Puerto Rico

“This must be a joke!” my mind screamed. As the van picked up speed going down the curvy mountainous road, I realized that this was no joke. Our van, with fourteen people in it, had lost our brakes. My mind scrambled as to what I should do. The first thing that came to mind was “SEATBELT”. So I turned around and fumbled wildly for my seatbelt, but came up empty. Visions of drivers ed videos ran though my head as I became aware of the fact that we had no seatbelts. As I glanced up, I saw that a car had turned and was headed headlong towards the van. I barely held back the scream as we madly swerved to miss it. By this point, my heart was pumping faster than a drum and my hands were shaking. Then I saw that we had another problem. There was tight turn up ahead, and if we didn’t make it, we would ram into a brick building. I thought “This is it. I am going to die just like my cousin’s friend in Mexico”. I was almost certain that we were going to roll…the tires screeched and a couple of us screamed as we barely missed the brick building. We made the turn and saw that there was a parked car and another house in our path. The missionary expertly swerved, and we missed them both. When I frantically glanced around to see what would happen next, I was relieved to find that we were going uphill. We finally stopped. And as we started rolling backwards, the missionary wisely backed the van into the mountain. The ride of terror was over. I was shaking and crying but thankful that the Lord had protected us. No one was hurt, and we didn’t crash. All I can say is “Thank you Lord for your protection!”
