"MK Moments"

Furlough - that word brings back so many memories! In the past eleven years that my family have been missionaries, we have taken three furloughs. And oh, so many memories are linked to each one of those furloughs.

Oops- One time, on our second furlough, we went to visit a family that supports us. We were all playing hide and seek, and we all got a little thirsty so we headed inside to get a drink. When they opened up their cabinet to get the cups, I saw this super cool looking teacup thing. So, I got really excited, and asked if I could drink out of it. (Haha I thought it was really neat! I had never seen anything like it before!) The daughter gave me a very strange look and pulled it out of the cabinet. When I asked her what it was, she said it was a GRAVY BOAT, not a teacup! Oops! In our family, we call these "MK Moments".

Act like a lady- Our very first furlough was the most fun as far as memories go. We kids were young, and we had all kinds of "MK Moments". That is when Toria asked about the heaters, and Gideon almost killed Grandma’s plants with hot water. (see my post called MK Secrets). And oh yes, we can’t forget my story. We had come back to the states for my Papa's funeral. I was just 7 years old. The whole family went on an outing with Grandma at a nice place called the Riverwalk in San Antonio. We were all having fun walking around when I decided that I needed to spit. So, I just spit on the sidewalk. My grandma, who is in every way a lady, almost had a cow! You see, in the Philippines it is totally acceptable for ladies to spit any where. I didn’t really know any better. :) I got a lesson that day on how to be a lady in America!

Use your silverware– One Sunday after church, my family was invited to a very wealthy person’s house. They were very proper, and they even had a formal dining room with formal place settings. They made rice for lunch with a chicken gravy to go on top. Halfway through the meal, we looked down the table, and my sister Victoria had abandoned all use of silverware and was eating with her hands. You see, if we eat fried chicken and rice in the Philippines, we eat with our hands. It is so much easier! Toria saw the chicken and rice and figured she could eat with her hands! Dad & Mom were frantically trying to get her attention. Needless to say, she started using her silverware. It was so funny!

Those are some of my favorite furlough stories! I hope you enjoy all of our "MK Moments" as much as we do!

This was our very first prayer card:)!

This is our most recent prayer card:)!
