Something I Never Thought I Would Do In America!

There are certain things that are normal at home in the Philippines that I never thought I would experience in America. At home, I am used to bucket baths and cold water running from our all the sinks and faucets. In America, hot water is everywhere. Everyone has hot water… it runs in every sink and faucet in the house. You can wash dishes, take a shower, wash your hands, clean your face, and brush your teeth in hot water! To me it is like a miracle, and I love it!

These past couple weeks, I have been reminded how amazing hot water truly is. The hot water tank at the Garlands house broke, and we have had to make do with cold water. We have been heating up water on the stove and taking bucket baths. (Something I thought I would never do in America!) We brush our teeth, wash our hands, wash the dishes, and clean our faces in cold water.

It was so funny the first day that the water tank went out. My best friend was so worried that we wouldn’t be able to wash the dishes because they wouldn’t come clean with cold water. I told her that we always only use cold water to wash dishes in the Philippines, and all our dishes come clean. It was so funny how shocked she was that you could actually do that! I feel like I am at home with all this cold water and our bucket baths, and I am loving it! The only difference is that the weather is always hot in the Philippines so the cold water is not as noticeable. It is quite a different experience to have all this cold water, and it is freezing outside. I am looking forward to the return of our hot water!
