Transportation In The Philippines

“What type of transportation do they have in the Philippines?”. This is a question my family gets asked a lot. Many of you are probably wondering the same thing.

Well, in the Philippines we have five different types of transportation: Jeepneys, Trisikads, Motorcabs, Taxis, and Kalesas’.

In this post, I am going to tell you about my favorite mode of transportation. It is a Jeepney! Jeepneys are the cheapest, most popular way to travel in the Philippines. You can travel for about PHP6 (12 cents) per adult and PHP 5 for a student.

Jeepneys have a driver and a conductor. The conductor is paid to stand on the back of the Jeepney, shout out the places the jeepney is stopping, and collect money from the passengers. If someone wants to ride the jeepney, they hold their hand out and the conductor will bang on the roof of the Jeepney to let the driver know.

Jeepneys also have numbers and letters to let you know what route they will be taking, so you have to memorize the numbers and letters of the Jeepney you want to ride.

The best part of the Jeepney experience is, when you are close to your destination, you take a coin and bang it on the bar above your head or you can say “Lugar Lang”. The Jeepney will the pull over and let you out. This is so much fun for me, the best part of the trip!

Feel free to message me if you have questions about the Philippines and what it is like. I just might answer your question in my next post!

Fun Fact: Each Jeepney has its own unique designs and color.
