What Is Different About Summer Camps In The Philippines?

Campsite - In the Philippines, it is rare to go to an actual campsite for camp. Most camps are held at schools. The host church rents a school and designates different rooms for the different teams at camp. Since it is just a school, these places never have beds to sleep in. So, most of the campers sleep on cardboard.

Bathrooms - The niceness of the bathrooms depends on the school that we rent. The bathrooms could just be plywood, unfinished concrete, or they could be nice and tiled. The toilets don’t have any seats and most of the time the handles are broken. Because of this, you flush with a bucket. Also, there are no showers in these bathrooms, so everyone takes ice cold bucket baths! That is one of my favorite parts about camp....the cold baths!

Bugs - Last but not least, you never know what creatures you will find in your quarters…..roaches, maggots, ants and spiders are all things we have dealt with at our camps. One particular night, some girls from our church were getting ready for bed and suddenly it started pouring. They started seeing white things drop from the ceiling of their room. When they looked closer to see what it was, they found that it was MAGGOTS!!! EWWWW!

It is always an adventure when you go to Summer Camp in the Philippines, but that is what makes it fun! I love our summer camps!
